Mom Who Thought She Was Dying Kills Daughter, What Her Family Is...

Mom Who Thought She Was Dying Kills Daughter, What Her Family Is Calling It May Make You Sick!

Wow. There is no clear cut answer for this one. Her father says it was “an act of love;” but the court says it is first-degree murder.

Bonnie Liltz is speaking publicly for the first time since she gave her 28-year-old daughter, Courtney, a fatal dose of prescription and over-the-counter drugs before trying to take her own life in the same manner.

According to the Daily Herald, Liltz adopted Courtney, who is severely disabled, when she was five years old, after Courtney’s first adoptive parents surrendered her.

Because Liltz had suffered from ovarian cancer, she was unable to have children of her own. But as the Chicago Tribune reports, she appeared to be a devoted mother to Courtney, caring for the girl twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Liltz explains in court that she was Courtney’s mom in every sense of the word.
“In all ways but biological, I was Courtney’s mother. I fed her, I dressed her, and I loved her.”

On May 27, 2015, Liltz woke up early in the morning convinced that she was dying. Believing that if she died Courtney would be placed in an institution — where Courtney had been put and poorly cared for when Liltz had previously been hospitalized — Liltz wrote a suicide note before pushing a lethal amount of medication into Courtney’s feeding tube and ingesting the same amount of drugs herself.

“I felt the only place she would be safe would be in heaven with me,” Liltz says.

Hours later, after unsuccessfully trying to get a hold of Liltz, her sister went to her home and discovered the unconscious pair. Courtney died in the hospital a week later.

“I have a pain inside that is beyond words,” she says. “I pray every day that someday we will be together again.”

Her family and friends support her saying she truly is remorseful and only did this out of love. But what kind of skewed love could drive a mother to kill her child, rather than choose to press through and fight for both their lives?

There’s obviously something very wrong with her thought processing, but does she deserve prison time for what she did? What do you think?
