Singer Celine Dion’s husband, Rene Angelil, has recently died. Before he passed, Dion expressed her final words to him and now she shares them with us all. She also shares what she told to her children as she broke the news to them. So sad!
Celine Dion has described her final moments with husband René Angélil before he passed away in January.
The singer revealed that she told René, her husband of 21 years, not to worry anymore and to go in peace.
‘You were worrying for my career. You were worrying for the children. You were worrying for everything. It’s enough. Do you trust me? Please do. Trust me,’ Celine recalled telling the 73-year-old, who was her manager in addition to the father of their three sons.
‘The kids are fine. I’m fine. I promise you we’re gonna be okay. Please leave in peace. I don’t want you to worry.’ she remembered while talking to ABC News.
The Grammy-winner said she lay in bed with René after he passed and placed a robe over him.
Celine also detailed how she explained to her young children, six-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy and 15-year-old René-Charles, that their father had passed away.
‘Before I told them that their dad was not there, I talked about when we, everybody, gets sick. Then I said, “Do you remember the movie Up”‘ she said of the 2009 Disney animation, adding, ‘It’s one of our favorite,’
‘”Oh,” they said, “Yes, Ellie went up. You know, she, with the balloons.” And I said, “Well, yeah … You know, today Papa went up.”‘
Celine explained that when asking her sons where ‘Papa’ had gone, all she wanted to hear was ‘up’.
‘Up is a good thing. Up is uplifting.’ she said.
The Power of Love singer said she took her boys outside to spread what she called ‘pixie dust’ and release balloons into the sky.
She recalled telling her sons ‘We’re gonna say, “Papa, we love you. Have a good up,” and we’re gonna spread this, and it’s gonna go to him.’
The Canadian songstress also spoke to PEOPLE about how she wants to prove to her boys that she’s strong.
She said: ‘René always insisted the show must go on,
‘You know what, I’m 48 years old and I lost the love of my life. I miss him a lot from when he was great but not when he was suffering. I cannot be selfish. You have to let people go. I feel at peace.’
Celine will perform at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards where she is going to be honoured with the Icon award.
She will sing a cover of Queen’s hit The Show Must Go On.
Rene died on January 14 after a lengthy battle with throat cancer.
Death is never easy to deal with. Especially if it’s someone that you love so dearly.
